Go Huskies!
Our school mascot, the Husky, was wisely chosen by the student council in 1995. We are the proud Siberian Huskies! The Husky finds its origin in Russia as an active, energetic and resilient animal performing best in extreme cold and harsh environments. A Husky is best known for its endurance, fidelity, and intelligence, so Hinkson Athletics strives to reflect these characteristics, desiring to honor Jesus Christ both on the field and off. Hinkson athletes and coaches also show adaptability and perseverance in overcoming the less than perfect training and game conditions! Hinkson Athletics has been thriving since the founding of the school. In 1996 Eric VonBarnau Sythoff with the assistance of Jenny Porwoll organized the first competitive season. Since 1997 Mrs. Porwoll has acted as the Hinkson Athletic Director offering competitive team sports for varsity (9-12 grades) soccer, volleyball and basketball as well as middle school (6-8 grades) teams. Eric Reppun was the first to introduce and train a competitive ultimate frisbee team from 2003-2008. Hinkson Frisbee participated in 2 Russian frisbee tournaments with great results. Hinkson teams compete against neighborhood Russian teams in soccer, basketball, and volleyball. We also play embassy schools located here in Moscow, including the German, American, British, and Japanese embassies. Hinkson Christian Academy has partnered and organized numerous basketball tournaments since 2001. More recently the Huskies have participated in International Christian School Basketball tournaments with the International Christian School of Budapest, Kiev Christian Academy, and the International Academy of St. Petersburg. The Lord has been faithful in providing both teacher and parent coaches to give leadership to teams over the years. If you have any questions or would like more information about our sports teams you may contact the Athletic Director, Jenny Porwoll, at hca@hinksonca.net.
