10th Anniversary Production
The Hinkson Players' originated in the spring of 1999 with the production of The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde. With only two months in preparation, the cast of 10, crew of 3, and 1 director pulled off what is still remembered as a stellar performance. The 2008-2009 school year marked the 10th Anniversary for THP, and we knew that this year's show needed to be as equally as spectacular as the first.
What better playwright to look to for inspiration than William Shakespeare? We have long been fans of Much Ado About Nothing, and this seemed the ideal script to adapt for a small stage. We began preparing for this event as early as June of 2008.
Casting such a performance was no easy task. Tryouts took much longer than expected; we needed to call in participating faculty members to round out the roles. As rehearsals progressed, we knew we had the makings of a masterpiece on our hands. We had an outstanding cast. Our production crew was amazing. The student directors were irreplaceable. The only thing that was lacking was a STAGE on which to perform this spectacle!
With three weeks to go before performance, we embraced the hall we already had, and revamped our stage directions for a much smaller venue.
Much Ado About Nothing was a smashing success, playing to a sold-out house on Friday & Saturday night. The actors were astounding, and the audience was appreciative.
